Middleton Place Plantation & Charleston City Tour

The House contains one of the finest collections of family-owned artifacts, dating from the 1740s through the 1880s. Guided tours of the house introduce visitors to the men, women and children who made Middleton Place their home for over two centuries.

The Stableyards offer a look back into 18th and 19th century working plantation life. This is where African-American slaves took care of the animals and tended to the crops. The skilled slaves were also responsible for making tools, pottery, clothing, and other products that were the kept a rice plantation functioning.

The 65 acres of landscaped terraces, shadowy allees, ornamental ponds and garden rooms laid out with precise symmetry and balance made Middleton Place the most unique and grand garden of its time. Today, swans sail majestically on the water and nest on small islands. It is a journey back in time and a lesson in history in a peaceful, beautiful setting.
